FTL vs LTL: What’s the Difference?

In short: FTL (Full Truckload) means your freight fills an entire truck and travels on its own. LTL (Less-Than-Truckload) means your freight shares space with other shipments. FTL is faster and more direct; LTL is cheaper for smaller loads.

When to Use Each

● Choose FTL when you have enough freight to fill a truck, need speed, or your cargo is fragile (less handling).

● Choose LTL when your shipment is small and cost matters more than speed.

FTL and LTL Across the Border

Cross-border shipments add customs to the equation. FTL often crosses faster because the whole load clears together, while LTL requires careful coordination since multiple shipments share the same truck.
